Georgian no longer language of instruction in Gali


There are now no schools using Georgian as language of instruction in Gali, a part of the breakaway region Abkhazia where 97 percent of the population are ethnic Georgians (Megrelians).

 Report of the Public Defender of Georgia on Human Rights Situation in Georgia for 2012

On March 30, 2013 Ucha Nanuashvili, the Public Defender of Georgia presented the Report on Human Rights Situation in Georgia for 2012 to the Parliament of Georgia. 
The report addresses wide spectrum of human rights and fundamental freedoms and discusses main tendencies in protecting civil and political as well as economic, social and cultural rights in Georgia. 
The year of 2012 was very important in the history of Georgia. Elections of 2012 marked the first peaceful transition of power since independence.   
Significant improvement in human rights situation in various spheres has been detected since elections in Georgia. However, number of serious problems still remains.
