Quiz 2014 –“Ethnic Groups and Religions in Georgia”


On December 16, the Tolerance Centre at the Public Defender organized a quiz “Ethnic groups and religions in Georgia” in Hotel Radisson Blu in Batumi. The quiz that already became a traditional event aims at raising awareness on ethnic and religious diversity of Georgia among school children and promotion of establishment of environment of tolerance. he quiz was held for the fifth times though it was the first time it was organized in Western Georgia. This year, five teams took part in the contest. They were: youth clubs of “Georgia-UN Association” of Batumi, Kutaisi, Ozurgeti, Zugdidi and also a team of pupils of Kobuleti Public school N5.




Analytical Center for Interethnic Cooperation and Consultations greets all Jews with Hanukkah , also known as the Festival of Lights and Feast of Dedication, is an eight-day Jewish holiday commemorating the rededication of the Holy Temple (the Second Temple) in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt of the 2nd century BCE. Hanukkah is observed for eight nights and days, starting on the 25th day of Kislev according to the Hebrew calendar, which may occur at any time from late November to late December in the Gregorian calendar. This is the holiday of light, joy, happiness, games and tasty food (among which are fried in oil cakes and donuts).


Central Election Commission of Georgia presented the draft Strategic Plan for 2015-2019


On December 12, 2014 the Central Election Commission of Georgia presented the draft Strategic Plan for 2015-2019. The Strategic Plan consists of four pillars - Institutional Strengthening, Civic and Voter education, Electoral Environment and Electoral Operations. Each pillar includes strategic goals and objectives. It’s admirable that the Strategic Plan considers Professional Development of Ethnic Minorities among other important goals. The presentation was attended by representatives of the civil society organizations and it was concluded by discussion and exchange of ideas.


Human Rights end Freedoms in Georgia - 2014


As in the previous year, the Parliament accepted the major part of the Public Defender’s recommendations and assigned undertaking of specific measures to the state bodies. According to the Resolution, Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee of the Parliament will monitor the implementation of the recommendations set forth in the Public Defender’s Report. Pursuant to the Resolution, the state bodies are assigned to present to the Committee the report on implementation of the recommendations mentioned in the Resolution prior to March 1, 2015.

Promoting Integration, Tolerance and Awareness Program (PITA) Agency for International Development

HUMRA – Research

ACICC  2014-05-05

HUMRA – Human Rights Animation. Research Report. From April 15 to May 15, 2014 Analytical Center for Interethnic Cooperation and Consultations (ACICC) conducted research in the framework of the project HUMRA – Human Rights Animation. Target group of the research were teachers and youngsters. Research activities were undertaken separately for each target groups as result of which were interviewed 30 teachers and 100 youngsters.

 Report of the Public Defender of Georgia on Human Rights Situation in Georgia for 2012

On March 30, 2013 Ucha Nanuashvili, the Public Defender of Georgia presented the Report on Human Rights Situation in Georgia for 2012 to the Parliament of Georgia. 
The report addresses wide spectrum of human rights and fundamental freedoms and discusses main tendencies in protecting civil and political as well as economic, social and cultural rights in Georgia. 
The year of 2012 was very important in the history of Georgia. Elections of 2012 marked the first peaceful transition of power since independence.   
Significant improvement in human rights situation in various spheres has been detected since elections in Georgia. However, number of serious problems still remains.
